Simplistic. That’s definitely true.

Israel is not looking to ethnically cleanse Gaza. Although unfortunately, the deal with the devil Netanyahu made to stay in power and avoid jail has helped empower both Hamas, and the israeli far right which would favor ethnic cleansing if it could get away with it.

Which it can’t, because of the very significant portion of Israelis who would themselves be horrified by it, and because they worry about international criticism. They have to win elections, as we’ve been seeing almost twice a year for ages.

Hamas has succeeeded in turning even the peaciest of the Israeli peaceniks against the idea of coexistence even with Hamas, which it used to favor, and very few Israelis want to clear Gaza of Palestinians. In fact, pretty much nobody wants that, because they don’t want to absorb those masses of refugees.
