It’s not going to matter in terms of faith in US treasuries any time soon.

Any more than the s&p downgrade mattered 12 years ago, which was the last time the repub party decided to play chicken with the full faith and credit of the USA.

Both this downgrade and the one 12 yrs ago happened only because of the fiscal brinksmanship over default. Without that, no downgrades in either case. Which will eventually take a toll, if the brinksmanship continues.

As the repubs seem to be gearing up for it again as the fiscal year end nears. Yellin said this was arbitrary - I think I disagree. I think Fitch is trying to signal “enough with the brinksmanship already”.

Repubs have now done this twice in 12 years, both times resulting in downgrades. If we’d like to preserve the full faith and credit of the USA and the dollar as the reserve currency, maybe repubs should stop doing that.
