Back right after the earth cooled, but before the dinosaurs appeared, we
were required to actually buy out textbooks. Each new school year, buying used textbooks from other families was a time-honored tradition. My high school World History book was so nth-handed and falling apart so much that I could easily rip out whole chapters at a time and just carry those around.
They did eventually start optional textbook rental in our school system, but not until pretty late in my K-12 education. [Post edited by Hoo TV at 07/24/2023 3:13PM]
