100% yes with your technology example - great point - there are layers
of things for sure. Not all of this funnels back to just a couple of things like basic labor and trade - very fair. But, there are real links. The tech explosion really does have a massive effect on how much labor suddenly is needed and for what and what it will be paid. The "easier" and traditionally populist way to address concerns like this is for the government to create artificial barriers to "protect" people (especially voters) from problems -- real and perceived (usually a combo of both). So I do think there are strong and deep links in many of these issues -- more than we often think about.
And as I always try and say as well -- governments have and will ALWAYS do things like this to some degree - just human nature and the world will keep turning. But when it hits some kind of tipping point which nobody can ever really see coming or define, look out. I think both parties are 2 sides of the same coin right now on many of these issues making for extremely dangerous times.
