My issue is with the narrative driven piece in the NYT which, despite what talking heads and partisans want to spin, really doesn’t tell us much of anything...and certainly doesn’t provide any evidence of fraud...contrary to the headline. They clearly indicate the source of DJTs legitimate tax shields (depreciation, interest, NOL rollbacks from the Obama stimulus package) and then try to make it sound nefarious that he actually used them to lower his tax obligation. As I mentioned yesterday, like you, the only thing I saw in there that gave me pause was the consulting agreement with Ivanka...and even that is not clear cut. She is taxed on that income whether she takes it as an employee (W2) or as a consultant (1099) and pays self employed FICA taxes, so the net effect to Uncle Sam should be the same.
