Shows US negotiators have a complete lack of understanding of negotiation
in China.
In China, negotiations are always drawn out, things are frequently re-negotiated, bosses often overrule agreements, and the written terms rarely encompass the whole agreement.
The Trump Administration getting upset about China trying to re-negotiate shows a fundamental lack of understanding of Chinese business culture, and preparation for the negotiation. The Trump Administration was never going to be able to hammer out a deal of this magnitude in a short time, they were never going to be able to get everything they wanted right away, and they were never going to get a deal that was totally encompassed in writing, especially not quickly. There is no such thing as a "done deal" in China.
This is what happens when all of the senior people with experience in foreign affairs are gone. Lack of experience exacerbated by a president who somehow fails to understand the use of tactics he himself is famous for employing to get a better deal. The worst thing you can do in negotiatuon with the Chinese is state everything you want upfront, try to rush to a deal, and throw a temper tantrum when negotiations drag out. China has the Trump administration exactly where they want them, and Trump's answer ispunish American businesses and consumers with tariffs. What a jackass.
