I actually think tactically minded dems should be more concerned..

About the million woman march than Trumpies. In fact, I'm a little surprised at Michael Moore's prominent role in it. He was the only iconic liberal I can think of who was not trapped in the lefty cultural bubble in the election. He predicted Trump's win months before Election Day. He knew that formerly reliable dem voters in the rust belt states were feeling ignored. The dem party was all about its core cultural issues, and stopped messaging on the economy. Trump almost trapped them with his offensive remarks, because that became the entire focus. Think about the Hill ads of the last week before the election - we saw Trump over and over talking about grabbing women's hoo-has and mocking handicapped reporters, and were warned about how offensive that would be to our kids.

People who voted for O twice in PA, OH, IA, and especially MI and WI, which hadn't voted repub since the last time NY and CA did in 1984, yawned and said who cares? My factory job is gone and I see no hope for a new one. I'll happily take the offensive guy who is addressing that.

Now, I don't think there is a good answer to their concerns, truth be told. Trade, Mexico, and regulations are the scapegoats of a brilliant demagogue. The culprits are changing times, technology, greater available efficiencies, cheaper alternatives to traditional commodities (nat gas vs coal), and in short, the Information Revolution, which is probably akin to the Industrial Revolution in terms of the lifestyle changes it presages.

The dems instead basically chose to act like our angry holier than thou parents. They chose to yell at us about our discriminatory practices. They chose to call Trump supporters deplorable. And I think yesterday's marches were a combination of a continuation of that tactical approach with the lack of cohesive messaging that characterized the anti Wall Street camping trips from a few years ago.

I think the dems are in a tough spot. They need to find a way to seem to be preaching a little less from their ivory towers, and to be pursuing practical solutions for what ails their base a little more.

Shocking turn of events. Dems gleefully predicted that repubs were about to lose the presidency until further notice, if not that along with the entire legislative branch. Now, they are more or less out of power at the federal, state, and local levels, with no clear apparent strategy for fighting back effectively. I saw yesterday's marches as a continuation of tactics that not only didn't work but actually seemed to hurt their cause.
