What's this?

We are a nation of people and are subject to all human flaws.

So on the one hand, sure, we should be humble and not consider ourselves to be superior as a people to any other. Not by some birthright.

What we do have is a set of ideals laid out at our founding in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and its subsequent amendments. Not about a utopia, far from it - democracy is messy and inefficient especially in a diverse country like ours. Ideals about freedom and equality that of course we fell short of from the start - we didn't act like "all men were created equal", to be topical with this thread.

I doubt a nation of people could ever truly achieve our founding ideals, and our whole history can be characterized as a messy struggle to pursue them. That's what I think we can take tremendous pride in, while being humble about the endless examples where we fall short.

This UN thing does not help in the least - it drags us backwards.
