In June 1944, allied forces entered Rome after being holed up on Anzio, B-29 pilots began their runs on the Japanese mainland, and the Navy decimated the Japanese in the Marianas. A great-uncle flew off the Enterprise, Intrepid, and Hancock, serving from just after Pearl Harbor until the Japanese surrender.

No Spielberg movies for them and there are no easy memorable dates for us to annually mark their heroism. But all served their nation in its hour of need. Thanks for the post, Hoober.
