You refer to our society as "diseased". Sounds a bit strong to me, but in a sense, I'm on board with that concept. The fact that we can't pass anything at all, even in the wake of tragedies like Sandy Hook or the Colorado Joker wannabe, bugs the crap out of me. Even though I am somewhat skeptical about how much it would even help.

Because of your point about our society. We have a cultural emphasis on guns that many countries simply don't have. So I disagree with your level of certainty that passing strict gun restrictions wouldn't have potentially very material unintended consequences from an energized black market.

Much like HWW above, I see a much more direct path to a decrease in things like the 69 Chicago shootings over Mem Day weekend from removing drugs from the black market than I do from potentially throwing guns into a black market. But I do still support common sense restrictions. I would actually support a licensing requirement to own a gun. They're at least as deadly as cars.
