IYRC, I think Congress made a choice about firearms that someone who

is convicted of a felony lost that right through due process of law. I think it was the right choice, of course -- but that should come at no surprise given that I also think it's ludicrous there is a federal right to own firearms for ANYONE. Anyhow there is more than a valid public safety concern with letting hardened criminals walk around with guns, so I'm all for it. I wish it were broader!

Could I see a reasoned argument that it should only apply to people convicted of violent crimes or that one should have a mechanism to get it restored (not sure if they do but I assume not)? Sure. I wouldn't support it, but I could understand it even if I think gun ownership is generally unhealthy even for law abiding citizens and shouldn't be a "right" anywhere (like it is in most of the developed world).

Voting is entirely different for many reasons. I don't think there is a public safety concern for someone who did his time being able to vote again. Honestly, don't really see the point on stripping people of their voting rights at all. So I'm all for restoring their voting rights.
