Because the Democrats couldn't muster the votes. Don't be an insulting prig.

John Kerry and Chappaquiddick Teddy tried to muster support for a filibuster. Barbara Boxer made the threat publicly. The cloture vote passed 72-25. Cloture, students, is when the Senate votes to end debate on a particular topic and call the question, i.e., bring up a yes or no vote. It requires a 3/5ths majority to pass, and in the case of Alito's nomination, 25 Democrats voted against cloture, which is widely considered by everyone as a equivalent to a vote in favor of a filibuster. Barack Obama voted for the filibuster.

Kindly start off with the assumption that I know what the hell I'm talking about instead of acting the part of an insufferable know-it-all. And while you're at it, come to grips with the fact that Obama and Biden tried and failed to filibuster a Supreme Court nomination.
