Only the speech they want to hear while doing all they can to suppress that which they don’t want to hear. They were absolutely demanding changes in their own society which an entrenched and frightened old guard wanted to stop at all costs. The “bad guys” were the suppressors.

Now, everybody’s a suppressor, and only supports their right to say what they want and prevent having to hear what they don’t. There are no “good guys” this time around. There’s a lot of rank-closing to “protect our side”.
