Disturbed by the many examples of right wing speakers invited to speak at a variety of institutions, who were summarily shouted down or literally run off campus to appease students who felt threatened by objectionable points of view. I think that’s a glaring weakness of many, probably most, of the current protestors’ sudden free speech absolutism.

The opposite does also apply - JM is exhibit A of a hypocrite in that same point. He doesn’t believe pro-Palestinian supporters should have a right to protest. It’s all political opportunism to him.

To me, it’s gut wrenching. I do want kids free to speak without fear of intimidation. I also want them free to disagree with campus orthodoxy, free to say nothing at all, and free to enjoy common spaces without intimidation from protesting campers. Once again I think you’re generalizing based on political preference - I’m not saying I disagree completely that the pres jumped the gun over the weekend, but I also think the protests were clearly violating school rules, unless you are dismissing every complaint from Jews and other non-protestors.

In my strong opinion, the pres would be demonized no matter what she did over the weekend. She’s faced with a similar decision today. And I once again suspect she loses no matter what she does.

If I were her I’d have resigned long ago. She has an impossible job.
