Of republicans voting for this package. Overwhelming majorities in both chambers supported it, yet it almost didn’t happen. Or at least almost required an end run around a tiny minority of extremists who imposed their will on the bipartisan majority for months.

Kudos to Johnson for finally doing the normal, democratic thing and just allowing the people’s reps to vote on it. I definitely would not support removing him, because incentives should not punish that support of democracy from a Speaker, even if he dithered for months. But I’m not nominating him for sainthood either. I think he may have been motivated in no small part by the embarrassment of a potential discharge petition neutering him.
