Attributed to that alone. I think there’s real pessimism on just about every front. Immigration overall has probably been a boon to the economy. It’s becoming the most commonly cited reason that inflation has declined so much without labor market weakness.

But…it would be suicidal these days to try to make that case. Not just in the US - people worldwide are freaked out by immigration these days. It’s the one constant where ever the extreme autocratic right is on the rise. I think it’s a big source of the anxiety which feeds into the negativity about everything, economy included.
