I must point out that it's also Dems that resist any and all efforts to purge voter rolls, and again point out that there's only one reason to do that considering anyone incorrectly purged could still cast a provisional ballot. But yours is still a valid point, and does support your thesis that screaming about voter fraud can be used to sew doubt on election integrity, the very issue we're supposedly addressing with voter ID bills.

But you'll still never convince me that the benefits of not requiring a photo ID outweigh the benefits from requiring one. The number of gun murders every year are well less than 1/100th or 1% of the population, so not "meaningful" statistically. But look at all the time and effort we spend discussing and trying to address those. Yes, I realize that's a crazy leap from voter fraud, that's not the point. If anything, you could argue a "stolen" election impacts many more than would some reduction on gun murders. But we don't dismiss actual meaningful and effective gun control measures because they're not statistically meaningful. We try to address them with the best, most practical, and most effective way. (even if opinions on what that way is can vary greatly)
