Mean that people were undervalued, I meant jobs are undervalued.
My first job (other than cutting lawns)was a summer job at the Virginia Beach Department of Parks and Recreation, other than cutting lawns, pretty much minimum wage, but I didn’t need the money to feed a family. I worked with some men who did.
The fast food industry was basically built on paying people minimum wage, so as to be able to provide cheap hamburgers to people. The problem course is that minimum wage hasn’t kept up with inflation. and much of the manufacturing job opportunities that existed when the fast food industry started have not kept up with population growth. So now a job in McDonald’s is about all that far too many people can get at least until they prove themselves there. It’s still gonna be minimum wage, but we have to recognize that adults with families are working these jobs as well, at least until they can find something better. So minimum wage needs to be brought back a little closer to what is necessary to survive. People are still going to McDonald’s, and five guys, and paying the higher prices.
