…restructure SS/Medicare such that we don’t (allegedly) need to import immigrants to support them. This argument that we need to import folks to support our idiotic entitlement programs is classic tail-wagging-the-dog thinking. Is a social security check really adequate compensation for destroying the culture of a nation? Are we a country or just a giant Walmart?

That aside, the focus should be on offering immigration opportunities to those who are already educated and financially self-sufficient and who can and will assimilate quickly. There are plenty of such people who’d come here if offered.

The other leg of the stool is to cut illegal immigration to zero and deport those imported by the Biden administration and who came here illegally under previous administrations. This must be done to 1) return law and order to the country, 2) reduce stress on the system and 3) prove to those who are skeptical of immigration that it is well-intentioned instead of a scam.

This third element will be necessary to bring the right on board with reform. Without it, there is simply no reason for those folks to negotiate with people who have already shown themselves to be untrustworthy.
