It is far from certain that DeSantis will ever be the repub nominee.

‘28 is an eternity away.

DeSantis right now has no better chance than Haley of being the nominee next time around. Haley has a better chance of beating Trump this time, but still not a very good one. But, if the unlikely happens, she’d be more formidable against Biden imo (DeSantis will turn off many genl election voters that Haley probably wouldn't), and then DeSantis certainly wouldn’t be the nominee in ‘28.

DeSantis will have to reinvent himself and his campaign strategy to become the nominee. Could happen one day, but he is not a presumptive nominee in any future election. At least as good a chance that his national popularity peaked before he announced, when he was less well known, and will never be a national factor again.
