DeSantis has been an excellent governor, but he lacks Trump’s charisma, grassroots support and personal wealth. As such, he’s beholden to donors, which puts him in awkward spots issue-wise and subverts authenticity.

And, like every other potential or actual Rep candidate, he’s facing the reality that most Republican voters see the imperative of restoring Trump to office simply to thwart the country-ending lawlessness of the left/state, which has been trying to take Trump out by any means necessary since 2016. Nothing is more important to these voters than ensuring they fail, and that’s just too much for another candidate to overcome this cycle..
