I think the real solution has to involve convincing Joe not to run

FWIW, I'm still not convinced that the plan all along hasn't been to pass the torch to Harris around February, though I think that would be a terrible look in terms of depriving the voters of an open primary. Assuming that isn't the case, Obama, the Clintons, Pelosi, and other party elders would need to talk with him and get him to bow out. Then you could have an open primary with Harris, Newsom, and Whitmer as the likely candidates. I think there's still time to do that. But if Biden is intent on running, there's no practical way to remove him in a primary.
