The house in Fairfax County next to mine just sold for $1.3 million

to a builder as a knockdown. It is currently on the tax rolls for $695,000, the land valued at $350,000. With the cost of demo and site prep, the builder values that same lot at $1.5 million.
So there is a lot local governments could do using their existing powers to just properly value land.

Inside the beltway is nothing like Detroit though. All real estate is local.
