Happily accept some sort of restriction - even at the federal level, as it’s never been the pro-choice side objecting to federal rules. The issue is trust. They will push back against any repub proposal because they don’t trust repubs to leave it there. How could they? Repubs once said “states’ rights!!” until Dobbs happened and Lindsey Graham immediately proposed a 15 week federal cap. Any state wanting to ban it altogether was fine - it was just a cap.

Repubs just elevated to Speaker a theocrat who retweets messages from other theocrats about making us a Christian nation. It’s insane to trust repubs to stop, at any limit they can pass. It’s not insane to assume pregnant women don’t really seek abortions “just because” after 18 weeks. Any mom understands that human nature pushes pregnant ladies to obsessively pursue a healthy baby at the end, not a late term abortion. It really never happens except in repub imaginations.

So the pro-choice set favors no restrictions over anything repubs propose because they don’t trust that repubs really want reasonable restrictions. They think repubs want theocratic control. At the same time they know moms don’t want to end abortions after viability. They already love the life growing inside them more than themselves. So they trust the moms, not the repubs.
