You have a part called the receiver, which has the trigger and striking
pin, then you have the barrel and stock. The receiver is the only part required to have a serial number and only if it is 80% completely assembled. That’s what the 1968 law says from what I understand.
So people are buying receiver parts, adding a trigger and striking pin thus getting around the 80% rule for no serial number. The building the rest of the gun by hand. Basically a do it yourself kit.
