Trust them to do what? If I'm arrested I'm getting counsel. Aren't you? But


that aside, there are too many instances of them abusing their authority. I'm wary of them and would rather not deal with them at all.

I will say that, of course, there are exceptions. The Tacoma officer who advises our neighborhood on security issues seems decent enough. But police departments generally are clannish and resentful of community oversight.
