If you want to bemoan (and who doesn't?) our current fiscal situation,

you simply have to start with Reaganomics aka more appropriately Voodoo Economics, in which separating income from spending can be rescued by the Tax Fairy, the flaw being that once you are happy to finance spending with debt instead of taxes, there is simply no downside to spending all you want. Reagan gave us the ultimate Free Lunch Theory of Macroeconomics
Cutting taxes and raising spending has been at the heart of GOP fiscal policy every since. The numbers you keep beating LA and his deputy of stupid Tommy over the heads with do not come by accident. Those are Reaganomics in graph form.

It's the lesson Reagan taught, sunny, cheery soul that he was. Even the conservative stalwart George Will (admittedly out of favor because he's conservative rather than MAGA) acknowledged that of the total Reagan debt added, Ronnie proposed 13/14 of it with Tip added the last sliver.
