It was DEFINITELY true 20 years ago. Now? I don't know, I haven't


kept up with the research. Heat pumps back then simply couldn't keep up with warming your house when the temperature was really low. NO ONE in Rochester, NY had a heat pump.

When I lived in NC, I had one in my apartment. Even in NC though, it was a tough job keeping warm when there was a long very cold spell.

As for now, I'd assume that better insulation in a home and technology improvement in heat pumps probably makes them viable options. I've actually seen them advertised in the Rochester, NY area.
