The article doesn't say that it was a "forcing function". It says, "The

discovery of the text message contributed to a chain of events that ultimately led to Tucker Carlson’s firing."

And, "The discovery of the message contributed to a chain of events that ultimately led to Mr. Carlson’s firing."

CONTRIBUTED

Or just a fancy way of saying that it wasn't THE "forcing function".

And it's not me who's trying to argue that it was, NOR am I trying to make it sound like the text was just issued recently.
