just that this woman doesn't have a bachelor's degree, that she's "just a waitress" who had to pass no requirements to get a certificate other than observing a teacher for 12 hours (!) and doesn't even know about phonetic spelling (!!), reading fluency (!!!), or mathematical operations (!!!!).

If it's a fake story, which it seems to be because spouses can't be teachers without a bachelor's degree and the law requires multiple steps beyond just observing a teacher for 12 hours, the points of the post that cause outrage are also fake.

Presumably, if the teaching certificate requires passing an exam in order to teach, then the spouse or veteran would need to know about phonetic spelling (or whatever subjects are required) to teach 3rd grade. If that assumption is wrong, let's see an actual truthful case that proves it.

On the surface*, it seems like there is plenty to criticize about the new law for what it actually is without making up a lie about the policy. This is just one example (and not an overly consequential one), but we all need to do better, and it starts with not falling for or just shrugging off lies just because they're somewhere tangentially near something like a valid point about the real policy. Just go straight to the valid point on the real policy (like what you mention above about an E4 with 2 years of community college) and skip over the misinformation - the lies don't help anyone.
