with alternate degrees to get in to teaching. A number of states will allow experienced professionals with degrees take some basic teaching training (and I assume pass some kind of evaluation) and teach. I think they generally require you maintain progress toward an education degree.

As you say, why military? Do we really want an E3 or E4 that did four years and has two years of community college (I repeatedly see "college credits", no mention of a four year school) teaching our kids? Or possibly the spouse of that person? If we're going to blindly pick a group to teach kids I'd rather have a spouse of a college professor (or doctor, or engineer, or spouse of a fully certified teacher than the four year military guy or his spouse.

As I said below, I think this is more about getting the "right" people teaching kids. The spouse of an E4 might be ok but not the spouse of a Disney employee.
