There’s an important distinction. The way they treat “Arabs” is
The way they treat non-citizens in occupied territories. It’s not the way they treat Arab citizens, which are a sizable Israeli segment. They generally enjoy representation in the Knesset in line with their population size overall, and were the power brokers in the last election. Ironically, right after Netanyahu’s far right moves started having possible implications to Arab citizens.
So the big difference is that Israeli society is a blueprint for political equality, which adds to the quandary. They “can’t” completely quit the occupied territories, for reasons ranging from stability to water rights. They can’t grant all those people citizenship while remaining the Jewish State. It’s a unique set of circumstances, very different from S. Africa. But conditions in the territories are very similar to apartheid. That is a cold, hard fact.
