I think it is a minority view, but I would suggest reading the book
Rather than dismissing it as pure right wing revisionism - it is a detailed, scholarly argument. Minority view doesn’t mean that it’s all that rare.
I’m at best an amateur historian, but imo the twin crises of the Great Depression and WW2 tend to make martyrs and heroes of leaders who ride the wave a little more than the historical narrative depicts.
There were certain things about FDR that could recall Trumpism - most obviously his attacks on the judiciary when he couldn’t get his way, and of course internment camps. I grew up in a Jewish enclave on LI, and trust me, there was some bitterness over his rejection of the plight of the jews in Europe. Many historians dismiss these things due to the nature of the crises he faced. More than they should in my view.
