How credible are concerns I'm seeing about the grid not being able to

handle the increased electrical demands if we're all driving EV's and needing/wanting chargers in our garages? Or all put solar panels on our houses. I honestly haven't looked at that at all yet, and assumed what I had seen came with a bit of right wing disingenuousness with it, but as I'm understanding the claims, they're basically saying there is no way our existing grid bringing electricity to our homes, as well as the panel space availability in most homes, is set up to handle the increase in power distribution needed for us to all have what we'll need. Then of course, you also have the hurdles of how you do this for high rise and other multi family living situations.

I like to hear someone with true understanding of this stuff tell me that it is viable to get to all wind and solar, even if still a long way down the road. Because to be honest, I've always wondered if this would be the next ethanol problem, or in other words how can we possibly have enough land and in the right places to make this viable? (yes, I realize you can send electricity a long way, but you also lose some en route as I understand it) Or are we just going to need to see hundreds of thousands of acres of solar panels in every available spot around the country to meet demand? I understand at least with wind you can farm and do other things under them, but with solar, it seems like it will take a chitload more land, and will not allow for the land to be used otherwise. (again, I understand they're trying other developments like much taller panels, rotating panels to maximize efficiency wrt position vs the sun, etc.)

Interestingly, I actually wrote that prior response before I read the article you linked (which was quite good btw). So I had no idea it would go into Mountain Pass and other issues mentioned. No, I'm not in the industry at all in any way. I strictly look at it for wanting to know and understand it, how it impacts our country going forward, and mostly for investment strategy purposes. Yes, I own a small position in MP stock and some other related ones.
