Perhaps you should read what both Roberts (who wrote the Shelby decision)

and Kagan had to say. The district and appellate courts, even with two Trump appointees, meticulously applied the law under the Voting Right Act, which prohibits racial gerrymandering, and would have forced a redraw their districts. Instead, five justices said the burden of proof was on the plaintiffs (bullshit under the VRA), that a redraw would happen too soon with an imminent election (imminent? It's MONTHS away!), and rather than stay it until it could be heard (the correct procedure), they instead let it stand dilution black voter power in the process. Oh and just in time for the 2022 election!

But, the Court isn't political, right?
