Currently, the same vaccines are being re-issued for Covid, mostly because

there is a fairly large stockpile in the US, they're readily available in the US, and they're free. Pharmaceutical companies not currently incentivized to produce new Covid vaccines to newly arising strains, particularly given that the lifespan of a Covid strain is about 6 months(note Omicron was first identified in November 2021). As long as the current vaccines are still effective at keeping vaccinated individuals out of the hospital, it doesn't make sense to try and continually synthesize new vaccines. We'll have to see if things become more stable with a highly infectious, but presumably mild strain like Omicron. If it persists as the dominant strain longer, its likely that we will see new vaccines targeted to it specifically. Also note, there are several vaccines that require 3 dose regimens. None of those vaccines treat for airborne viruses.

As Covid persists, its likely the emphasis will become on boostering individuals at high-risk, and the majority of the population will ignore it as most people do the flu. We get to that point a lot faster, if everyone eligible gets a vaccine and builds a base level of immunity.
