The Dems run on their principles and win easily when people are fed up with actual Republican abuses of power (the entire Trump era, the Iraq War) or terrible policy (leadup to the financial crisis, the entire Trump era), but then fail miserably at WEILDING power. They don't know what to do with it when they get it because they actually are starry eyed and foolish enough to believe in quaint concepts like compromise, deliberation, and democracy. What ends up happening is the public sees months of pointless sausage making and views them as weak and incompetent, then turns back to the authoritarians (your party) until they fuck it all up again and it's the Dems' turn to fix it and restore order (only for the cycle to repeat itself).

The "lust for power" line is pretty goddamn special though, I'll give you that. Yes, Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi dream of being all powerful dictators! I hear Joe even wants to dress up in a Generalissimo costume and have a tank and missile parade....
