And “steak parties”

Funny Shen brought up those high savings rates. I recall on the day we moved in 1st year, I went with my dad to the credit union to move money from savings to checking to cover first semester tuition/room/board. I was waiting in the lobby beside the black felt placard with the indents to put the white plastic numbers and letters. The placard had the CU’s various offered rates; savings, Christmas Club, whatever. They were in the 12-14% range and I thought, “what a ripoff”, compared to even higher mortgage rates and inflation.

My, going long the 30 year in the fall of 1980 would have been tasty.

  Yes. At 12-14%, CD's were very popular. ** -- Shenhoo 08/21/2020 2:05PM
