Nobody I know is arguing that police brutality not wrong & does not exist.
You are speaking from a very personal experience and I respect that. You obviously view this issue from a different lens than myself as I have never raised a black child. But the question remains as to how systemic police racism is in our country? Police brutality must be rooted out and corrective must be action taken. Conflating police brutality with systemic racism is a false argument as such brutality victimizes people all races.
I hear your plea that conservatives such as myself need to be more compassionate, a sentiment which has been lodged against the right for some time. But almost all of us on the right were on the same side as those on the left after seeing the horrible video of George Floyd’s death and were outraged. This was a time when conservatives and liberals were together and had a unique opportunity to express our outrage in one unified voice. Tragically, that opportunity was lost.
I ask you to consider what we have witnessed with our own eyes over the past week - murders and injuries of those trying to protect others and their property, rioters organized to hide amongst peaceful protestors intent on causing mayhem, massive funds raised by wealthy people on the left to post bail for these thugs to release them back on the streets, calls to defund police departments by Black Lives Matter, liberal city mayors and governors who have enforced social distancing policies for the past ten weeks encouraging mass gatherings and resisting stronger law enforcement measures.
The left would have us believe that such actions are justified to enable change for the better and that layers of racism in America remain the paramount issue. Was the election of an African-American President merely form over substance? Have not most major cities where such alleged systemic racism existed been run by liberal mayors for decades? Are all black police chiefs in major cities merely figureheads or too incompetent to manage their departments? Why does the left not loudly condemn the violence from these protests consistent with the message of Dr. Martin Luther King?
If those on the left wish to persuade those on the right willing to listen, they must gain trust and establish credibility with their message. Engaging in violence and divisiveness compounds the problem.
