Again, going out in the yard to confront someone removes the fear of life. Fear of life means you are not the aggressor. In most states, you cannot legally shoot someone in your house illegally without a fair warning (i.e. freeze, I have a gun). In these states, if the intruder flees you do not have the right to shoot them in the back because the "fear of life" is no longer valid.

I do not know what you do with a stupid 70 year old gun owner who does not know the laws, but she is lucky one of those kids did not "fear for his life, get the gun from her, and shoot her". They were the ones with the "fear for their lives'.
