Well ok, but my wife and I looked at Portugal as a possible retirement

location in 2017. You can EASILY get by with English and even if not, I was able to put together enough broken Portuguese to do daily activities. How is that any different than the Vietnamese woman who owned the dry cleaner I used to take my clothes to? Her English was passable and she owned a business and was doing just fine. Her son, who worked there occasionally when he wasn't at college, sounded just like my kid.

That's the immigrant experience in a nutshell, isn't it?
