I clearly recall a class in third grade where we (the class) role played

being citizens moving to a new city being started in the western US. We had to build the city from scratch including what institutions were necessary...schools, infrastructure, city officials, police, fire, etc. In retrospect, I think it was an outstanding project because it taught us as kids not to just take things for granted. It led to some good discussions.

My third grade teacher was outstanding however. Mrs. McMurtry; I've never forgotten her.
