So, I suspect there is an important aspect that pro-Trump repubs are
mis-characterizing. This from a co-worker who said he saw John Brennan on Meet The Press on Sunday. I didn't see it and can't watch it now, so I can't claim to be 100% certain of this, but am interested in whether anyone else has any info.
I'm told Brennan said in no uncertain terms, and almost in passing, that the initial FISA application for the Page surveillance made no reference to the Steele Dossier at all. Which would completely contradict the claims you keep making, based on the Nunes memo's characterization of the McCabe interview, that the warrant would never have been issued without the Dossier. At best, you can say that it might not have been renewed, and it was in the renewal applications that the Dossier was presented as additional corroborating evidence to support probable cause to continue investigating. Along with other factors, and that there is nothing unusual or inherently political in that.
So first of all, I'd be interested in what others here have heard on that point.
Second, I'd love to see you perform a little thought experiment on yourself. Imagine all these same exact circumstances, but it is pres Hill under investigation for working with Russians; it was a partisan dem memo she released without any redaction at all, and it is now the repub rebuttal that is rumored to be in the process of redaction before release.
Do this honestly, and of course you'd be far beyond skeptical of everything in the dem memo. You'd dismiss it out of hand. And you would go through the roof at the redaction of even one word from the minority response from the repubs.
Why not wait and see before you start accusing Obama of such abuse? Let's see if Trump has the balls to release the dem memo as is, no redaction. If he doesn't (that's my bet), let's see how he defends the notion that it is national security and not his own political hide that he is protecting.
I know you are capable of understanding the inherent conflict of interest that both parties have in this politically charged maelstrom. So how about a little healthy skepticism, even of the Trumpie side?
