Not evil but just for the record

NB's niche of "Made in USA" is to put it mildly, a bit on the edge. Most of the components of their shoes are manufactured overseas but they they do a few things here and have essentially set their own standard for defining "Made in USA". Parts of their shoes are essentially glued together over here in one of a few different plants -- then there may be something like a logo or something else sewed on. They say they feel justified promoting "Made in USA" if 70% (I think) of a shoe consists of "domestic value or labor" and I think since they acknowledge that most of the components are manufactured overseas - they are essentially using a labor-component as the main value and saying "70% of the value we affix to this shoe comes from domestic labor". This has caused some legal issues, but it has been allowed to mostly skirt for various reasons.

Also, FWIW - the number of U.S. employees they employ TOTAL (according to their 2015 numbers) is 5,000. Nike employees more than this just in the U.S. I get that Nike is viewed as the evil behemoth and NB should be commended for their niche as well. But fair to say that NB has also played fairly loose over the years with their USA marketing, not to mention being the main benefactor of years-worth of import tariffs on many shoes. TPP would have at least started to phase out those tariffs a bit more - they have been around in some form since the 1930's!! Therefore, not quite fully accurate to say they are "looking" for support for the government -- they have had it in various forms for a very long time. Also, Trump-like rhetoric to say that Nike's shoes are made by children in the Pacific. I know there has been a story or two over the years, but they have been one of the more aggressive global players to be as proactive as possible about where they manufacture and generally considered to be a strong leader in this regard.
