Major difference.

When paying a motivational speaker, the aim is usually to fill the seats. You pick a person that people will show up to hear -- the market determines the price. I just heard John Cleese on "Business Basics" and they sold out and turned people away. Hired for his technical knowledge? It's a business transaction. It's like hiring Bono or Steve Wozniak or Shaq.

When donating to a candidate, I am showing support.
