And he's not criticizing you over your statement about your family. It's great that your muslim relatives do not beat their wives. There are plenty of muslims who do not. But there is an actual bill being introduced in Pakistan based on Islamic religious doctrine which codifies the level of "wife beating" that is allowed according to Islam. So the fact that your muslim cousins don’t beat their wives is not a very convincing argument that this is not about religion. Women throughout the Muslim world are pretty much universally treated like shit. And even outside of the muslim world, honor killings happen far too frequently within muslim communities. That doesn’t mean that all muslims beat their wives by any stretch, but the horrible treatment of women is definitely a problem throughout the muslim world and in muslim communities…. The actions of your cousins notwithstanding.
