that starting an armed conflict with China in their own backyard might not be in anyone's best interest? Showing restraint has nothing to do with being weak. It has to do with not treating international relations like some video game with no real life consequences. And how do you know the Chinese ambassador hasn't already been called on the carpet over this? John Hoo's analogy about the Gulf is pretty spot on, by the way.
