Which is, of course, where government comes in
It's like the coal talk last week. People say the market will drive people to learn applicable skills, and in a static world with no externalities or transaction costs, it would. But it doesn't, at least not always. That's what government is for: sanding the rough edges off of capitalism.
There's a lot that's appealing about the libertarian philosophy. But reflexively balking at anything that sounds interventionist is a major hindrance in practice.
