It is all pretty absurd for many reasons. The first is the cobbling of the

"gifts and loans" to make it seem as high as possible an amount by the media and prosecutors. $120,000 of the "gifts and loans" are loans they paid back. Really? A family "friend" is paid back loans and this is 2/3 of the amount. Once that is gone, then it is approx. $50,000, which doesn't have as much cache. Of course that is cobbled of little things spread out over several family members too. McDonnell himself barely got any of that. He drove in a Ferrari one day? Really? UNC players do that every weekend. So, the purported amounts of "bribes" are so low it is ludicrous.

Second, he didn't violate any state ethics laws and was found to have not done so. Whether this is good or bad, doesn't change that fact. Warner and Kaine had similar types of gifts. Articles show: The VPAP site reveals that since 2001, Kaine received $186,899 in gifts and travel – Redskins tickets, cases of wine, etc. Before Kaine, Virginia’s governor was Mark Warner, now the state’s other senator. Between 2001 and 2004, Warner received $190,362 in gifts and travel – $495 bottles of wine, a $450 “handmade dulcimer,” etc. So, why is McDonnell charged?

Third, the Federal government shouldn't be coming in and charging a state governor of these types of crimes. Congress, Senate, anything Federal fine, but this doesn't appear to have much of any nexus to the Federal government.

Fourth, there was no quid pro quo. I mean I don't remember when we all went out and bought some supplements we heard about McDonnell touting. Because know one ever knew anything about this and Williams didn't get anything special from McDonnell. He had a function at the Mansion once? Really? Hard Knocks on HBO showed Snyder and the Redskins with the Texans at the same mansion with McAulliffe. They are hosting all sorts of people all the time to promote things for the state.

In sum, this absurdity and, because it is absurdity, the only logical conclusion is that McDonnell was charged because he was Republican and the DOJ was democrat. No other explanation.
