It's not only not a fallacy, there is clear and convincing evidence that it

has taken place. Witness the number of invited speakers on college campuses - mostly conservative - who've had their speeches canceled.

I will add also an incident in which a couple of knuckleheads at the high school here where I live put pictures of themselves on Facebook wearing racist t-shirts at a party. After school hours, off school grounds. These students were suspended. Is that not an instance of society suppressing speech it doesn't like? This happens at high schools in many places.

Also just see how employable you'll be if you start putting hate speech all over your Facebook profile or join up with the KKK. You won't be thrown in jail specifically for that, no..but you will find it a great deal harder to find a job, join a club, etc. You'd be less employable than a convicted felon, I would think.

Is a canceled speech the same as being thrown in jail? Of course not. But it is a small form of silencing. And the more people get the idea that they can silence someone by complaining, the more they'll do it. It's more than "being uncivil." The goal of these people is nothing less than shutting down people like Trump and making sure he never gets to participate in the political process. X offends me, therefore we must silence X. X must not be allowed to speak.

What to do about it? Ignore them, criticize them, inform them that their demands and objections, as they relate to free speech, will not be acted upon. Don't give up your own soapbox as Bernie did. Say what you will about Trump, and I do, all the time, but the anti-speech crowd are bullies, and we all learned that standing up to bullies is a better way to stop it than to give them your lunch money every time they ask.
